Life After Death?
While having an online discussion with someone, the topic of life after death came up. I found it quite interesting that this individual held the belief that there was life after death. This individual also stated that believing that there was life after death gave their existence a sense of purpose. I asked if there was no life after death , would they still find meaning in their life. The answer that I got was that they would question the reason for their existence and would not feel that they had a sense of purpose in this life. This answer caused me to think more in depth about just how important the belief of an afterlife is to many people.
In most religions , there is a concept of an afterlife or some other state of being . Some religions even promote the thought of having another go at this form of living, but as another person or living thing. I began to wonder if the "purpose" that this individual conveyed in our discussion , was the source for some religions promise of an afterlife. Meaning , that if people thought that this was it, they were more likely to sin or break the law thinking that they had no real reason to do good deeds. I pose this hypothetical question to you, if there is no life after death , would this life lose meaning ?Be honest or else you might go to hell in your afterlife............if there's an afterlife.

As for me, I am sure that it would not mean as much. I do not believe in reincarnation, but I do believe in Heaven and Hell. I think that with all evidence pointing to the existence of the Supreme Being, I think that I will keep my shit in one sock and behave, for the most part. Something about that continuing burning and never being consumed, bugs me alot.
Two Dogs, as usual you neglected to answer the question!! What if everyone found out that there was no afterlife, would this life lose meaning?
Sorry Two Dogs, I see that you did answer the question. But , you didn't explain why this life would lose meaning . You just explained why you would continue to behave if there was an afterlife.
> What about you, Soundboyz... you haven't answered the questions...
Well , since you MUST know IMARA!!!! I think that my life would have just as much , if not more meaning than if I believed in the afterlife. I would feel like this life was all I had to make a difference and an impact on society , so I would go all out to try and make a difference. I do that now , but I try and obey some of the rules of religion because it teaches you to be humble and meek.If I knew that this was it, I might resort to some "less ethical" methods to make an impact.
Overall, I don't live this life in fear of not having an afterlife , I live this life with love of this life and love of living now!!
I love Goldi's answer. I think the same way as she does. I think religion is a man made institution created in his attempt to try and explain the spiritual realm that exists. This is why we have so many different versions of religion. But I think that there is a spirituality that exist within us all. This cannot be twisted and spun to create different branches of religion to seperate us.I don't know if we come back again and again until we get it right , but I strive to get it right in this life, so my motivation for this life doesn't hinge on the unknown!
>Enjoy life (everything in moderation). And treat people the way you want to be treated (especially you Soundboyz).
Is it me , or does every female I interact with have some sort of negativity towards me? Oh well, like you said Goldi, life IS short , so I might as well focus on the positive . I'm just trying to spread LOVE(tearing up).......NOW IS THAT SO WRONG?
P.S. Lay off the pork , it will make you happy but it will shorten that happiness.
There is no afterlife, like all other living things, we are just 'survival machines' for our DNA. xxoo GER

This would make sense because our sexual drive is something that is genetically woven into our genes for survival. Instead , we try to make it a moral taboo, that needs to be controlled and regulated.I knew I wasn't dirty for thinking about sex all the time. I knew deep down that this was something natural and uncontrollable that is essential for human survival. Or at least that's what i'm going to tell my lady!!
>2. you will stick your tongue down a hottie's throat in public - no matter where you are
Goldi......You might want to rethink this one.I heard that Europeans are very .....let's say adventurous. This might be worse for you than the pork!!!!
Human Survival Machines are containers for DNA. In fact we are just a conduit for the propagation of a particular combination and quantity of DNA. My particular combination causes me to like Thai food. Alas, I shall not be contributing to the gene pool, Thailand will survive though. xxoo GER
Why does my combination of DNA cause me to touch myself so much?
> Anonymous, if we are just "survival machines" why do we have emotions? There has to be more to it than just procreation.
Hey Imara, animals have emotions too!!
Imara, any good set of genes would design a survival machine that is best able to carry them( the genes) to the next generation. Altruism, emotion, etc would certainly increase the survivability of any given survival Machine and it's 'Host'. Nurturing the young, picking a robust mate, all these things tend to increse survivability. Read 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins, he explains it much better than I. I think I might just go out and find me one of those 'Robust Mates' swap a gamete or two! xxoo GER
Imara, alas that is our only biological meaning for this life. Do not despair though, our genes also created thinking 'minds' for there SM's and they/we have gone on to do many lovely things. Please call me GER. xxoo GER
Hey Ger.....I think you are very intelligent. I find that attractive in a mate......strictly genetically though. You are a female , right?
On second thought ,GER sounds an awful lot like Two Dogs , but in his right frame of mind!!
I know there is an afterlife. If not, being in the mindstate that I'm in, what about those ripped away from us unexpectedly? Are we to only hang on to memories they've left behind? I hope that is not the case.
geekbird, memories are all we have, but, they can be good too!
soundboyz, I am a member of the heterogametic sex and I have but one dog. xxoo GER
>Tell ya what, Life is all about ORGASMS...you have to have a certain amount to graduate to the NEXT LIFE LEVEL...
Nzyme, I don't quite know what to say to that theory.....It is rather unique. I must say.....I haven't thought of things quite in that way. Well.....congratulations!!!!I hope you graduate Magna Cum Loudly!
O.K. Nzyme , I will have to check out your response at Two Dogs......
Geekbird, I am concerned about you . I did see your post at your site. What is going on? I hope you can stay strong . I will visit your site as soon as possible.
Anonymous, I am sorry, I thought you were someone else.Well, I thought you were female before I thought you were someone else. Please forgive me .
>Is it me , or does every female I interact with have some sort of negativity towards me?
Every female, Soundboyz?
I just want to respond to this from yesterday by saying that Imara is the only female in the blog world that has not been negative towards me.My apologies Imara, I should have picked up on that as soon as I made that comment.Sorry Imara.
