Are Black Men Retarded?

"All my Brotha's eatin' chicken and watermelon, talk broken English and drug sellin' See I'm tellin' and teaching real facts. The way some act in rap is kinda wack. ("My Philosophy" -Boogie Down Productions)

Every family has one, that cousin who got stuck in a 1980's time warp and just refused to grow up. You see him at every family reunion walking around in a Members Only jacket with a 40 ounce braggin' about how he has 10 children by 10 different women and is too smooth to pay child support. While the rest of the grown folks slip away to the family room to discuss important family business, Cousin 'Junior' stays outback with the children trying to do the Cabbage Patch off of the Whisper Song, not much different than what he was doing 20 years ago....

If we look in the dictionary, we will see the definition of retarded as 'slow or backwards in mental or emotional development ' along with a big picture of one of the Ying Yang twins. While the off the chain behavior of some Brotha's has been discussed in detail by some of our greatest scholar's such as Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, this issue is rarely discussed in a Hip Hop-centric context.

Historically, white supremacy has made it virtually impossible for Black boys to become Black men. Back in tha day (and even now in a small town just south of Tupelo, Mississippi) it was common for 70 year old Black men to be called 'boy' by 10 year old white children. The system has put so many obstacles in our way that it is hard to live up to the basic meaning of manhood: one who provides food, clothing, shelter and security for his family. So much so that many Black men choose to live in a perpetual childhood instead of risking the wrath of white supremacy by asserting their manhood. This is why, in 2005, we see that our development has gone way beyond being arrested; it is on major lockdown.

So today, you have 35 year old men acting like they are 14 year old teenie boppers. They may not be going around singing that jingle from the commercial from back in tha day 'I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid, but they are singing the Hip Hop remix, 'It's plain to see, you can't change me cuz I'm a be a nigga for life...'

While back in the day a rapper was shipped off to the Happy Valley Hip Hop Retirement Home on his 21st birthday, thanks to the industry's potent Hip Hop viagra, a rapper can still be pimpin' all over the world well into his 40's. So the natural progression to manhood has been altered.

While many Brotha's come into the rap game in their late teens with the 'product of my environment/ just keepin' it real like it is on tha streets' excuse,' it becomes problematic when the 18 year old kid becomes a 33 year old multimillioniare who has traveled the world several times over but still kicks lyrics about standin' on tha block with a 40oz, hollerin' at ho's. There is something very wrong in a society when in 2005, Snoop Dog is talking about virtually the same thing he talked about in 1992.

Also, problematic is the 'school yard brawl' mentality where instead of threatening to beat someone up after 6th period woodshop class, grown men like 50 cent and the Game threaten to annihilate each other if they cross paths in the hotel lobby after the after party.

Most disturbing is the crunk music coming out of the Dirty South which has done more to destroy Black manhood than when JJ Evans from Good Times was running around in those red pajama's screaming 'Kid Dy-no-mite !!!' With few exceptions, like Durham's 'Street Ambassador' Crown King, who is developing a sound called 'Conscious C.R.U.N.K. (Consciousness Raising Unleashing Nubian Knowledge) the subject matter is pretty much the same. It usually doesn't go much deeper than a Brotha threatening to shoot another Brotha over a parking space in front of the strip club or a Brotha whispering to a Sista like some sick pervert calling one of those 900 numbers at 3 in the morning threatening to do things to her that are illegal in most states. (Wait till ya see my.....OOOOh!!!)

In communities across the country, Black men should join together and put a mandatory age limit on actin' the darn fool. We must develop a Rites of Passage for the Hip Hop Generation that doesn't include a 10 year bid in the federal pen.

Just as in some countries every male is required to serve in the military, we should require every Black man to do a tour of duty in the Afrikan Liberation Army (or at least enlist in the Hip Hop DROP Squad). Also we must join efforts to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, like Bro. Sile, National Chairman of the RBG SOULdiers, is doing with the Take Back Black Music Campaign.

We, as Black men, must join together and boldly proclaim the words of Eldridge Cleaver, “We shall have our manhood or the earth will be leveled by our attempts to gain it!”

But seriously though, I take offense to this post!!!How the hell can someone use rap music to define black men , or even blacks in general?!?!?!

It's as STUPID as me saying, I have been listening to a lot of heavy metal and rock music, and it seems as if the state of white males is that of heroin addicts and coke heads!!Yep,. they all seem to be into self mutilation, violence and heavy drug usage!!That Marilyn Manson is indicative of the state of white males!!!!

For what the opinion of a white chick who spent 7 years of her life working at a boys and girls club in the inner-city is worth: I agree. Thoughts and attitudes are as much causal forces in life as are the circumstances one is born into. In 7 years I made my own small difference, but really, it was the attitudes of the kids themselves that made or broke them. There was nothing more discouraging than asking a 15 year old boy bragging that he had 2 kids already why he would make babies that he couldn't provide for. His answer was that he probably wouldn't live to see 21 so he had to leave something of himself behind. The cylce of poverty and demoralization must be broken. It must. In my opinion and experience, the only way to do so is from within.

SB, I think you should re-read the post. Minister Scott (He wrote it. That's why it states, "We as black men...". Yes, damnit, I stole it!! I gave him credit!! I thought it was a great article that needed to be debated but, I digress...) wasn't necessarily putting the blame of Rap music, but more on the actions of Black men. C'mon! Every family has that one uncle or brother or cousin that just can't seem to get his sh*t together. I have a couple in my family!! And this isn't limited to the males either. I know a few females that need to grow the hell up; be mothers to their children; be wives to their husbands; be responsible, tax paying, law abiding citizens. I think the article was important because the family structure starts with the man. I know. It's "old fashioned" but, true! A strong, purpose driven, responsible, respectful, faithful, disciplined man, makes for a stable, loving, strong. purspose driven family. The break down of the Black family unit is distroying our people. Black men need to be men. Real men. Not these hip-hop versions of what "they" (and we know who "they" are) want our men to be.

Kelly, you have made a very good point!!!Some blacks don't see much hope for themselves because of the poverty and the situations that they were born into!!This contributes greatly to their outlook , or lack of it!!!

I am not making excuses for those people, because ultimately, people can still conduct themselves in a sensible manner!!I won't pass judgment on those people because I didn't live their lives and had to deal with what they had to deal with!!

Kelly, your comment is exactly on point! If that 15 year-old young man had a strong male role model to look up to, he might realize that if he made different choices for himself and changed is environment, he very well could live to see 21 and beyond. When your role models are "actin' a fool", your going to emulate a fool. Not really a good look.

It's okay to like the Whisper Song (for the love of God, why would you...) but you don't have to live out the video. Folks need to learn that there is more to life than what is portrayed in a rap video. Black folks are actually lawyers, doctors, teachers, CEOs, nurses and the like. I can't tell you how many people look at me cock-eyed when I tell them I'm a RN and that I actually supervise my unit. I've actually had people ask me, "how'd you do that?" Duh. I went to school. Got me some edumacation.

I'm going to say something right now, and I don't care who gets offended!!!

Black MEN are/ have been the target of genocide for thousands of years!!I don't need to go back in history and bring up examples!!!It's funny the G8 conference is taking place , and it seems as if black countries need welfare and debt relief in order to start to get their stuff together!!!You know...frankly, it makes blacks seem as if they are inferior to everyone else!!!When one doesn't put history into perspective, one can believe the negative stereotypes created to berate blacks, and black men in general!!!

Do you know that even after segregation, when a white person went to a home of a black family, the white person only dealt with the black woman!!!And black women think that it's their own will and strength that is causing them to make progress today , and it's the laziness and "good for nothingness" of black men why they can't !!!

Remember, white racists have no problem with having sexual relations, and even children with black women, so I think white racism towards blacks stem from an inferiority complex to black men!

What was Emmitt Till murdered for?!?!What was the underlying factor of most of Jim Crow ??

I think the important thing to consider is: what to black men want?

Do black men want to be able to walk around in baggy pants hanging off their arses, with underwear showing, hats on sideways sticking out of their heads, bad attitudes -and- hold down $75k a year job that doesn't involve drugs, sex, or stealing?

We helped get a lot of kids through high school, into private schools, into college. Scholarship money went to waste because kids weren't applying. We had kids who studied in secret, hiding their good grades from their friends. The ones who succeeded in finishing school and staying out of trouble, the ones who worked hard and really had a drive to make better lives for themselves and their families -- they were ostracized and accused of 'being white'. Truth is, they were just taking their proper roles in society, roles open to those with the courage to brave the censure of their peers and seize the opportunities out there. From what I've seen over the years, it wasn't the white man that was keeping the black man down--it was the attitudes of blacks themselves.

SB, I agree with your point completely! However, how do you explian the actions of the types of people written about in this post? Most black folks know someone who is a professional. That person may not be related to them but, they know they have made it in this society. I'm not saying that racism doesn't still permiate (sp) this country, but that's no reason to act like you aint' got no damn sense. My mother use to tell us,"if you go out there an act like I haven't been raising you right, I'm gonna whoop yooo ass." And that would better than her telling my step-father, cause Lord knows what he's capable of! What happened to those days? People- in this case black men- need to act like they got some damn sense up in their head. The man is the foundation of the family unit. That's why the King has more power than the Queen. I understand that the fear of a black man is strong. Even more reason for black men to stand up and be the men that they're born to be.

Imara, a good start would be to look to the professionals and the politicians that are making a difference in their communities. Assimilate towards the norm, you know. Emmulate successful people, not just Fiddy and Snoop. Try Shaq, who returned to LSU in the off-season to receive his degree.

Emmulate people like the new Jackson, Mississippi Mayor, Frank Melton who was sworn in yesterday. Last night he participated in a police sting operation that netted twenty arrests.

He also said in his inaugural speech that the young Black men were going to have to pull up their pants, give their little sisters their earrings and start acting like men. Hard words from an old school guy. Yes, he's Black and won the election with 88% of the vote.

I would be curious to know where Rev Scott was talking about south of Tupelo, though. If someone really talked like that, they would get the crap kicked out of them. Probably because that area of Mississippi IS overwhelmingly majority Black.

Yes, there is inner city poverty and gangs, but the majority of poor in America is buckety whites!!!"Trailer trash" as I have heard them referred to , is a far more prevalent situation than ignorant poor blacks.

Black women are SO lucky that it was costing the government so much in welfare , or else they would be in the SAME boat as black men screaming racism!!!The government realized that it was better to let black women enter the work force rather than have to kick out those BILLIONS in welfare!!!That welfare to work , and the whole double affirmative action applied to black women, has benefitted black women greatly, but they only did it because it was cheaper that way!!!Remember that!!

*Imara rolls up her sleeves and wrings her hands*

Okay Soundboyz. I think you're taking offense to my post because you are a black man. I'm not talking about all black men, nor do I think was Minister Scott. I know more black professional men than I do black men that don't have their sh*t together. When I say "don't have their sh*t together", I'm not talking about educated black men with sense that are struggling. I'm talking about black men that still act like teenagers. I don't listen to 50 or the rest of that lot, but my nieces and nephews do! That crowd has an influence on how they view themselves. Young kids can tell you all the latest celebrity gossip about this or that, but they don't know what's going on in their neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong, 50 (and he's just an example. There are many like him) is a "business man" but the image that he portrays is damaging to black men (and woman for that matter). Unfortunately, there are SOME black men out there that think that's a life style to emulate. Furthermore- and far more damaging- there are young people that are emulating this group because they think it's cool. My nephew told me over the weekend that I'm too "uppity" because I made a comment about a group of young black men that looked and acted like they stepped straight out of a rap video. He pointed out that they were pretty good students and didn't get into trouble. I told him that they're diamonds packaged in garbage bags and people judge you based on their first impression of you. If they carry on a certain way, people may not take the time to see beyond their baggy pants and foul language and really get to understand that they are brilliant.

Don't get me wrong. The fear of a black man is strong. That's why it's important for black men to represent themselves in a respectable manner. Why do you think that the NOI demand that men wear suits and ties in public and speak properly and demonstrate refind social skills? I have no problem with a brotha that wears Tims and baggy jeans but that shouldn't be his "persona". I'm not a black man but I know and love several. When I see some one (in this case a group) that I love dearly, I'm going to speak on it. There is nothing more beautiful in this world than a black man. They were made in the image of God.

As for black woman. Trust you me... I don't need you to tell me what it's like to be a black woman! I'm not stupid. I know that many of my advances have come at the expense of black men. That's why black women need to stand by and support (emotionally and, yes sistas, financially when needed) black men. The family unit must be held together. Now is not the time for sistas to cop an attitude with a brotha over some foolishness. And by the way, the majority of woman over 18 on Welfare are white!

The most powerful tool of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.

I wouldn't but the blame for the state of Black America solely at the feet of Black America. For every example of a Black man actin' a fool, I can give you ten examples of where Black men have been held down by White Society. For example Kelly, look around your office. How many employees are there? Now now many are Black men? How many hold postions of power?

Well, see that's part of the problem. Not too many media outlets are talking about what Shaq did off the court, unless it involves Kobe! Not many black kids know that Shaq went back to school to get his degree. When he was asked why he took the time to do that, given that fact that he's worth several hundred million dollars, he said he needed something to "fall back on" because he knows he can't play basketball forever!

When you say, "Assimilate towards the norm". What's the norm?

YES. "They" know that. That's why Black men get treated the way they do. If you knew someone that wasn't living up to their potential would you call them out on it? You would do everything in your power to steer them in the right direction, right? This is the same thing. SOME Black men are falling into the trap set by White Society. That's dangerous. I've been hearing talk that Bush is going to try to appoint an "Originalist" to the Supreme Court. Damn. If that happens, Black folks are in BIG trouble. We need to wake up. We have been lulled to sleep. All in an effort to destroy us. Let's just take the "religious" fight for example. The story goes, God made a "bet" with the Devil that his people would still worship him in the face of turmoil. What if Black people ARE Gods people and Whites are trying to wipe us off the face of this Earth. Why are we doing ANYTHING to help them?!

Imara, I think we are saying the same thing!! I think that we are both saying that rap videos are not indicative of the black lifestyle, but does have some effect on the way that some blacks behave!!!My point was that the majority of people who buy this crap, is white suburbanites!!!So, although the images portrayed by rap music is not reflective on blacks as a whole , it is being perpetuated by some blacks and others!!

Trust me Imara, if you study rap videos and rap music, one can get a pretty biased view on blacks , and black men in particular!!If you watch the Bayou Classic football game , or any black college football game, what you see will amaze you!!!What you will see is arenas and stadiums filled with bright , beautiful, ambitious, black children!!!From the teams, the stands and the bands, all upstanding , beautiful black people!!!So, do not be alarmed my sister, there are MANY blacks that are on track!!!Remember, Minister Scott spoke of the ONE knucklehead!!Yes, there's always ONE knucklehead, but there are MILLIONS of blacks that are getting an education and striving for success!!!!!

Take the music industry for example, if one tries to combat their message with one of hope and upliftment, you will not succeed!!!!They have the industry on lock!!!Black music included!!Even "black owned" labels aren't really "black owned" !!!You do understand that , right?

In some ways I feel like I don't have any business commenting on this... I'm not black, and I've not walked in your shoes. But at the same time, I also think it is important to have a dialogue between the races--race relations have long been a concern for me.

That said, Imara, I agree with your response. You are correct, the black man was and has been oppressed, and the 'oppressed' mentality is what is keeping the black race down. Unfortunately, only blacks can change that mentality. The norm is what it is: the american dream. House, yard, garage, good job, good kids, good health, comfortable retirement. Pretty boring, actually. Is that what black men want? I've talked with a lot of men over the years, and it seems there is a lot of anger and resentment because they are pressured to want things they don't really want, and have no idea how to get it the first place.

Thus, my question, which is... What do black men really want? I mean, if you know what you really want, you can develop a plan of action, you can anticipate stumbling blocks, you can work toward your goal. But if you don't know what you want or your goal is not specific, then all you have is unhappiness and dissatisfaction. So, until black men decide what they really want, work single-mindedly to achieve it,
they will always be oppressed, because they have no vision for anything else. Reality is that white folks have to face their prejudices every day, and that discrimination in the workplace, in matters financial, etc is not acceptable and can be addressed legally. So, a black man with a goal and a will to achieve it can do it, even with inherent prejudices out there. Its a matter of creating a generation of can-doers who can set examples for the next generation. And I don't mean a generation of rap and sports stars. I mean a generation of men who get an education, work good jobs, raise their kids, pay their mortgages, etc. Its dull and boring and its tireless work, but, when it comes down to it, that is the American Dream, and people from all races, religions, and countries have come here to do it, and made it happen. That is what this society is set up to enable people to do. And if that isn't what black men want, then what do they want? What do black men want out of life?

Wed Jul 06, 03:00:00 PM 2005
Blogger Imara said...

Kelly, your input is valuable. Please don't feel like you're intruding. I agree with your points here. We just have to keep in mind, it's a thousand times harder for a black man to acheive the American dream. That's reality. That aside, I think that the least black men can do is have pride in themselves and carry themselves as such. I think your question is dead on. Through hundreds of years of oppression, Black men have lost focus of what they want and what they can achieve. It's going to take several generations for the stereotype of black men to change. They're going to have to be willing to make the sacrifices needed so that progress can be made. That's a hard thing to ask someone- to make sacrifices yet still not achieve their dreams so that another generation can.

OT...On a serious note Imara, I cannot believe what happened in London today!!!I feel so angry about the whole thing!!!It makes me upset to know that innocent people are being killed and wounded !!!I find the whole thing senseless because the further we go into it , the more difficult it will become to understand and be able to stop it !!!It's like a downward spiral into Armageddon!!

The radical Christian Right think that this needs to happen in order for Jesus to come back! They actually believe that they're fulfulling Biblical prophecy. George Bush included. He told a group of Evangelical Christians that he believed that God made him President for this very purpose.

I'm interested to see how Americans react to this...

Imara, this is what happens when fundamentalist on both sides go at each other!!!!Innocent people who probably could care less about either religion or ideals, end up getting hurt and killed!!!This is going on in Iraq every day!!!

Imara, what you wrote here is VERY important!!!Getting to the REAL issues is becoming harder and harder!!!It's gotten to the point where it's us against the terrorists!!!These things are happening for a reason, and NOT the reasons that are being given!!!I don't think the terrorists want to take over the world and convert everyone into Muslims!!!That's just garbage !!!!911 was not just a random act of violoence!!!But if anyone dares to look any further than they are evil terrorists and we are good, is called a traitor and a sympathiser of the enemy!!!I just want peace, but I guess that's a leftist cowardly trait!!!

First of all Imara, they are Indians , NOT Native Americans!!!!To call them Native Americans is to suggest that they were native to America!!!According to SOME Indians, they were just here chillin'. They didn't own anything, and the white man had a right to take whatever he wanted!!!At least that's what one SO called Indian told me!!!But then again, that one So called Indian looked more like the white man than Indian!!!

Oh, and that same so called Indian stated that people get stuff taken from them all the time. Thus is the spoils of war!!So, I guess this So called Indian has no problem with the US invading Iraq or anywhere else. After all, it's the spoils of war. And going by his thinking, he should'nt have a problem with what happened in London, after all , it's the spoils of WAR!!!

Come to think of it...that So called Indian is a drunken IDIOT!!!!!!If someone carjacks him and robs his house,he shouldn't have a problem with it, after all.....people get stuff taken from them all the time!!!!!

You know, Soundboyz, what happens when China buys Unical and they ban together with Russia and Europe decides that maybe we've gone too far with this whole war on terror thing and they ALL decide to put us in our place. What will we be able to do then? By that time we should have Troops in Iraq, Syria, Iran and Lord knows where else. I'm not looking forward to that day.

It seems to me that the folks who don't have a problem with stuff being taken are the folks doing the taking. Silly rabbits.

Imara, you know ....you always seem to impress me with your knowledge and understanding of a topic!!!Imara, you are exactly RIGHT! I tried to warn those ASSHOLES about "kicking ass and taking names"!!Eventually, they will be the ones who will be getting their ASS kicked and their names taken!!!It's natural law!!!

Imara, when I was a young man, I messed with a squirrel that lived in a hole in a tree in my parent's back yard!!!What I didn't know was that the squirrel had babies and I was threatening them!!Could you believe that that little squirrel attacked me!!!She sure did!!!She scared the living SHIT out of me !!!It took my poor old grandmother, who had been warning me the whole time to leave the squirrel alone, to come to my defense with her cane!!!From that day, I learned that everything on the face of this Earth deserved respect and to be left alone!!!

These shit eatin' rednecks will eventually learn that they are not the baddest and toughest people around!!!They will learn that ALL people deserve respect!!!!And I don't want to hear that SHIT about 911, because 911 was in response to something!!!!So, the cycle will always continue!!!!

Imara, I say leave those assholes alone!!!!Let them go ahead and piss everyone off!!Really, I think this is the only way to solve the problem !!! They talk about others as if they didn't matter and are quick to talk about nuking people and murdering human beings !!! I think Bush is rubbing off on them and they feel invincible right now!!!The only remedy for that is a slice of humble pie!!!!

Let them continue to run their ignorant mouths and continue to bullshit and kill innocent people!!!!Eventually when it comes back to them, we will see how big and tough they really are!!!They must think that they are invincible!!!They need a good lesson in humility!!!

And one last thing!!!These assholes are so outraged about what happened in London and how innocent people were killed and mamed by savages, yet when whole cities and towns are razed by our military and hundreds of innocent men , women, and children are murdered.....not a word!!!!So, I guess ALL Muslims are terrorists!!!!I have noticed that the war in Iraq is no longer against Iraq, it's against terrorists!!!Wrong, it's against Iraq, and foreign fighters have come to the defense of their fellow Muslims!!!I guess I am thinking too much into this!!!!I should just leave it at, We are good and everyone else is evil!!!

I just don't understand how some people can advocate the death of innocent people just because they happen to be the same religion as the terrorist. That's like me saying I hate all Christian's because of the crimes they committed against blacks during slavery. It's closed minded and wrong. We are all humanbeings and deserve respect. I want the terrorist brought to justice too. I just don't want innocent people hurt in the process. And taking the attitude that at least it's there and not here is ignorate because it can happen here.

"For example Kelly, look around your office. How many employees are there? Now now many are Black men? How many hold postions of power?"

That's a pretty poor argument. What percentage of black males attain a college degree? Actually do well in said college degree? And by do well, I'm talking 3.5+ GPA. It's pretty astronomically low.

Until the emphasis in the black community shifts towards education, the lower rung is where it will sit. And that doesn't just go for the black community. It goes for every person in this country, and well it should.

The truth must be told, the media and our politicians are repressing it. Black continue to use whites as a scapegoat for the black race’s failure as a whole. Nowhere on earth, no city, no state and no country where blacks dominate is their any sort of socially or economically successful society. Long after most of the world had developed socially, economically and technology wise, blacks were still wearing loincloths and warring among their tribes. This is due to genetically inherited traits including IQ. Many studies support this but the media and our politicians repress them. There is a direct correlation between intelligence and success. Intelligent blacks do not tend to end up on the welfare. Just as intelligent whites do not end up on welfare. It is just that there are far fewer intelligent blacks as a percentage of there race than there are intelligent whites as a percentage. Intelligent blacks that are born into poverty will climb out and succeed in life. If we continue to support policies that encourage the worst part of our society to breed, our country will end up being ruled by a black mass of stupidity. The ghettos of this country will continue to grow. You will never end it no matter how much money you pour onto them.

A note to the naïve and the wise.

To the Naïve:
It has been proven that 90% of Muslim clerics in Great Brittan teach the jihad. The Muslim religion as a whole is dangerous. They are taught that all infidels must convert to Islam or die. Their overall goal is to dominate the world and spread Islam by the sword.
As the Muslim population increases in any given area their demands and their violence also increases. The Muslim religion is now and will be the greatest threat to peace and democracy the world has ever known.

A note to the Wise.
In the end it will be a life or death struggle because this is what Islam calls for, this has gone on for 4,000 years it will not change.

As far as the Native Americans and white men, at the time that this occurred this was the mentality of almost all people i.e. the strong take from the weak. Native Americans warred among them selves taking land they desired from other tribes. This went on in Africa and still is, Europe, South America, Asia and every continent inhabited by mankind. Slavery was practiced at one time or another on all continents and by all peoples including blacks at one time or another. The fact is that the white man was more successful and the last to do so. Unless you can trace your lineage back to the beginning of mankind and prove your predecessors did not do these things – Please stop your whining and shut up.

This is an awesome article, seriously, slavery is more alive than it was when black people were slaves, and black people hold on to it like a bachelor to his pillow. I hadn't sen black people till I got to the U.S. west coast, and I'm from a place where white people are minority. I can't say I understand the only message I'm here to pass is rap is fun, but fun doesn't pay the bills. Value education, work hard and stay positive.

I've had black eyes coming in to work and the more you ignore them and change the subject, the more everyone else will. Everyone has their own style of baggage but learning to overcome it is the best thing we can do.
Work hard at doing the best for yourself you can and the rest will fall into place.
